Lightning activity in particular can result in severe damage or destruction of electronic equipment via AC line borne voltage spikes/surges.
These devices are also designed to filter supply line entry of "noise" which can be caused by a multitude of sources such as heavy start up loads (motors are a common one) and reek havoc with sensitive digital equipment in particular.
Such a small amount to spend to provide some protection against surge or EMF noise issues affecting or destroying expensive equipment. This accessory will NOT solve all your protection issues but it is a good starting point.
