Another interesting find from one of the workshop boxes, a nice high current contactor.
Although SALZER looks to have been formed in Germany, this contactor was manufactured in India
That said, it is well designed and manufactured. I wondered a little whether it was truly new, inspecting the contact points very closely and also the coil spade terminals - I am of the believe this is new, even though it was only in a sealed plastic packet and not boxed.
It would appear to be an "old" device and I cannot find any reliable information from the Salzer website or other online references about the specifications so I am providing some basic information to assist in determining the usefulness of this contactor for your purposes.
Keep in mind that the type of load and current will determine the usefulness of this contactor in a specific situation i.e is the load resistive or inductive (much higher in-rush current at turn on) and whether you are switching AC or DC voltage.
One thing I can tell you 100%! This is NOT a current transformer! I see someone online calling this a current transformer - there is no way in this world that this component is anything other than a contactor i.e high current (above 15A) power relay.
SALZER (Germany) - Power Contactor
Made in India
Model: CT70-SPST
Type: Open Frame
24V DC operation
70A @ 240V AC contact rating
Single Pole Single Throw
Normally Open
BASIC PHYSICAL INFORMATION (to help determine current capabilities of the contactor)
Operating coil measures 48 Ohm
Operating voltage 24V DC
Each 'side' of the switch contacts uses a pure Copper bus-bar
13mm wide x 3.2mm thick x 44.25mm length
Terminals on the bus-bar's use threaded bolts 6.15mm diameter
The contacts which 'make' when the contactor is activated are on another pure Copper bus-bar with two contact points (at each end of the bar)
This bus-bar is 12.75mm wide x 31.75mm length x 3.25mm thick
All of the contact areas are disc shaped and appear to be Silver plated (tested positive for Silver with my tests) Copper base. There are four contact discs in total, two being up on the contact bus-bar and two below on the terminal bus-bar. The lower contact disc(s) appears just slightly smaller than the corresponding contact disc above, the measurement I have given is the lower/smaller disc.
Each disc is bonded (appears to be a rivet) to the contact and terminal bus-bar's
Each disc is 9.5mm diameter x 2.2mm thickness (lower contact disc, the upper disc is ever so slightly wider)
I have not made any adjustments to the central spring but it appears that by using the central nut, the contact gap can be altered.
Presently the contact gap is 2mm when idle (not operated)
The complete contactor has an all metal frame which includes to slots for mounting
Overall size of the contactor: 70mm height x 50mm x 34mm wide
Component weight: 265g
TESTING:
Made a simple test by applying 24V DC to the coil and it is definitely operating - a large, positive 'clunk' as the electromagnetic pulls the contact bus-bar downwards, closing the switch.
I checked the switch contact resistance when operated and it is VERY low, I no longer have the equipment to accurately test sub-one Ohm resistances but the contacts do measure well below one Ohm (in the milli-Ohm range)
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Being just in a sealed packet when I took this out of the workshop spares box, I looked it over carefully - particularly those disc contacts.
They are absolutely clean with no signs of use and certainly no arcing or horror of horror's - pitting! Nice clean shiny contact areas.
I have now placed this contactor back into the packet and sealed it, awaiting a new owner to make use of it.

Model: A537
Made in Great Britain
Australian 240V Model with standard Australian plug fitted
Used but fully working, no strange noises or smells - it has barely had any use since we bought it years ago
The main unit and all accessories are UNDAMAGED. That means the metal blades are not bent, none of the plastic is cracked or broken.
Checked it just this morning, all running fine.
Comes with the original User Booklet and we checked that ALL accessories are present, nothing is missing.
The main unit is clean (as are the accessories) with just a couple of very small marks from the couple of times we used it previously.
