HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.

While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.

I tend to be quite detailed in my item descriptions, please READ all the details to decide if this item may interest you.

Now, on with the description ...

TOM & JERRY (19xx) Compilation plus one

I am not sure who created this compilation, it appears to be three cartoons spliced onto a larger reel - two of the cartoons are Tom & Jerry but the last one is definitely not Tom & Jerry. I forgot to take a photograph of the title but it was a curious cartoon about a young man joining the Navy and beginning a life on the sea - no mouse, no cat or other animals at all!

Cartoon 1: Solid Serenade

Cartoon 2: Southbound Duckling *

*Funny thing this cartoon, it has the usual Tom & Jerry antics but there is also this duckling which "talks" for all the world just like Donald Duck! I don't know much about the cartoon world, perhaps this was a precurser to the 'grown up' Donald Duck.

NON TOM & JERRY

Cartoon 3: I cannot remember the title but it is not a Tom & Jerry cartoon

Housed in a special "Universal 8" special White hinged case but I think this was used because it was on hand at the time - during the entire film there is no mention of Universal in the three titles/credits.

Very sparsely labelled - just a cutout from a cardboard box (TOM & JERRY COLOUR SOUND) which has been attached to the spine of the case. Nothing is marked on the reel.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

Film stock and the reel is undamaged

The White Universal 8 case is in very good condition, no discolouration nor damaged i.e no cracks or broken pieces

No unusual smells detected coming off the film i.e no vinegar or musty smells

NO personal names or other writing on the case or the film reels

TESTING:

Test projector is the ELMO 1200 that I have on hand at the moment.

Film looks to be clean and in good condition, sprocket holes are not damaged.

Because the title was quite vague, I ran the entire reel through the projector so I could see what it contained.

I must say, the first cartoon in particular has GREAT colour! The Blues are Blue, Greens, Yellows, Reds all look great! This would have to be the best piece of film I have run through the projector to date, meaning very little dye deterioration.

The remaining two cartoons are not quite as good but still have good colour, the Blues are paler but still there.

With all three cartoons, the sound is very good, clear background music with the occasional dialogue - all were easy to listen to and understand.

In my opinion, after this extended test (compared to my usual very quick look) , I am happy that the film subject is as stated on the box (except the last cartoon) and looks to be in very good "technical" condition.

Anyway, I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed it back into the original plastic case box with a couple of Silica Gel packs (to absorb any humidity) AND sealed the film within clear plastic - waiting for a Super 8 film buff to enjoy this reel of some classic cartoons from yesteryear!
