HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.

While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.

I tend to be quite detailed in my item descriptions, please READ all the details to decide if this item may interest you.

Now, on with the description ...

UNIVERSAL 8 FILMS - Super 8 Film

Commercial release for the Home Movie market

STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE (1979) Selected sequences

Catalogue: 1070

Content:

For the "Trekkies", particularly those who loved (and can remember) the early days of the Star Trek saga

Packaged within an outer hinged cardboard box with an added bonus inside! The original (like new) tri-language Marketing-Film International 1980~81 catalogue of Super 8 releases, in full colour. I loved this catalogue and hope I can find some of the films in these boxes I have here - War Of The Worlds would be great to see on Super 8!

Leader film fitted

7" 400' smokey Grey Unbranded plastic single reel

Colour

Sound

It appears this was released in multi-lingual versions, this is the ENGLISH version, as indicated by a small sticker attached to the reel (along with another sticker identifying the catalogue number, 1070)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

Film stock and the reel are undamaged

Outer packaging is in very good condition, clean with just one light liquid "splash" mark on the front which I could not remove - this is only visible when held in the light at a certain angle.

NO damage to the case i.e no side splits, tears or graphic damage

Had a good sniff of the film (as one does) and no signs of a vinegar odour, just a slight "hey, I'm old!" type of smell.

NO personal names or other writing on the outer box or the film reel

TESTING:

Test projector is the ELMO 1200 that I have on hand at the moment.

Film looks to be clean and in good condition, sprocket holes are not damaged.

I ran the film through the projector for the first 5 minutes or so, to observe the colour and sound.

The colour is degraded (shift to Red) only slightly, probably one of best colour reproductions I have seen recently from these films I am checking. Sure, the Red is still present but Blues & Greens are at least visible as well.

SPECIAL NOTE:

I always include a couple of "off screen" snapshots ... now my digital camera is antiquated and it's limitations are definitely showing up in these sample photographs.

I take the screen shot in very low light levels, the camera flash is turned off (otherwise the picture is flooded with White) and the camera shutter speed is very slow.

This means I have trouble getting sharp photographs, especially when there is movement on the screen and I have noticed that after viewing quite a few films now, that my poor OLD digital camera is tending to emphasis the Red's in the photographs anyway - in real life the on-screen picture is not as Red as recorded in the photographs.

Sound (English) is very good, crisp, clean and not muffled although I must say the audio level was significantly higher than other films I have been checking tonight. Not distorted, just a greater audio level.

In my opinion, after this very brief test, I am happy that the film is as stated on the case and looks to be in quite good "technical" condition.

Anyway, I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed it back into the original cardboard slip packaging and sealed within a clear plastic packet - waiting for a Super 8 film enthusiast to give this film a new home
