HISTORY:
My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.
I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.
While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.
I tend to be quite detailed in my item descriptions, please READ all the details to decide if this item may interest you.
Now, on with the description ...
CARTOON COMPILATION - Super 8 Film
Commercial release cartoons for the Home Movie market
Catalogue # Unknown
This looks to be two cartoons, spliced together by the owner and packaged in a clear plastic hinged case.
Very basic labelling has been applied to the reel and I have confirmed the contents, which are:
JUGHEAD - The Magician
POPEYE - The Billionaire
Each appears to run for approximately 7 minutes
Housed in a thick clear plastic, hinged case
Leader film fitted
7" 400' Light Grey/Off White unbranded reel (stamped as Made In Italy) plastic reel
Colour
Sound
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
Film stock and the reel are undamaged
The clear perspex plastic case top & bottom section do have some light scuff/scratch marks from handling & storage over the years and there are NO broken pieces.
This case is labelled as CARTOONS
NOTE: The owner has hand written details of the reel contents on a label which is attached directly to the reel, I have confirmed that this label agrees with the contents.
Interestingly (I have come across this a couple of times) there is also a label which indicates the film was cleaned and given a lube in 1983! I didn't even know you can clean a Super 8 film so there you go ...
No unusual smells detected coming off the film i.e no vinegar or musty smells
NO personal names on the case or the film reel
TESTING:
Test projector is the ELMO 1200 that I have on hand at the moment.
Film looks to be clean and in good condition, sprocket holes are not damaged.
I ran the film for about the first 3 minutes (Jughead) and then FF until around 10 minutes in to view the second cartoon (Popeye).
The colour has definitely shifted, although the dominance of Red is not as bad as I have seen in other film stock. Greens, Browns and Blues can be seen "here and there" so overall the change to the colouration isn't really too bad.
Sound quality is acceptable, clean and crisp (not muffled). No dropouts of the audio heard
I also checked the spliced area between the two cartoons and the transition from one to the other is smooth and without jerking/jumping.
In my opinion, after this quite a brief test, I am happy that the film is as stated on the reel and it looks to be in fairly good "technical" condition.
Anyway, I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed it back into the clear case AND sealed the case with clear plastic - waiting for a Super 8 cartoon film 'buff' to enjoy!
