HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.

While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.

I tend to be quite detailed in my item descriptions, please READ all the details to decide if this item may interest you.

Now, on with the description ...

MGM HOME MOVIE - Super 8 Film

Commercial release for the Home Movie market

Selected scenes

Catalogue # M18

MOGAMBO (1953)

As the packaging says "Passion as hot as the jungle sun" but there is more than passion, great opening scenes when the "whitemen" trap a Black panther, what an animal! Funny (to me) when the panther strikes out at one of the men and scratches his little finger! He doesn't know how lucky he was ... the fabulous Clark Gable (tough guy sophisticated lover) with Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly - a classic!

Housed in a moulded, hinged styrofoam Black case.

Leader film fitted

7" 400' Blue PLiO MAGIC (USA) plastic reel

Sound

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

Film stock and the reel are both undamaged

The styrofoam plastic case is in very good condition

Cover slip graphics are clear (front and rear) as is the side identification label

A slight smell of vinegar was detected coming off either the film or the styrofoam

NO personal names or other writing on the case or the film reel

TESTING:

Test projector is the ELMO 1200 that I have on hand at the moment.

Film looks to be clean and in good condition, sprocket holes are not damaged.

I ran the film through the projector for the first four minutes or so, to observe the picture and check that the sound quality.

The colour is actually pretty good, almost as I would expect from an old film with plenty of colours across the spectrum, perhaps a slight leaning towards the Red end of town but certainly not severe as with some of the other films I have viewed. I would rank this up with one of the best colour reproduction to date of the films I have so far watched.

The sound is crisp and clean, no "noises" and it is easy to follow the dialogue

In my opinion, after this brief test, I am happy that the film is as stated on the case and looks to be in very good "technical" condition.

I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed the film into a sealed clear plastic packet to maintain the current condition and it now patiently awaits a Super 8 film enthusiast who loves the old classics from the film industries "Golden Era"
