50+ years ago, children could learn to read along with spoken word and music on vinyl records, those released through Disney were considered one of the best. These were the days when a record player was commonplace, there wasn't all that much to offer on television (certainly no streaming services) and of course, smartphones were a pipe dream (or nightmare, depending how you look at them)
A LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK & RECORD (Disneyland) - Rumpelstiltskin
Walt Disney Productions
Cat # 204
Circa 1976
Record & Book format
USA print & release
BOOK:
24 page book
Full colour illustrations
RECORD:
This 7" record, must be played at 33 as you would for a 12" vinyl music album
The male narrator's name is unknown and it is not stated within the book or on the record labels. He does have a nice "deep" reading voice and without a twangy American accent!
Side A & B: There are audio prompts (the sound of a coin dropping) when it is time to turn each page, this is a good cue to the child that they are "keeping up"
You know the story (highly abbreviated) ... a funny little man has this amazing ability to spin Gold, for the Millers daughter. However the catch with all this Gold being given to her is that she must give her first born child to the funny little man. He produces all the Gold she needs and then wants his side of the bargain furfiled, to be given the daughter's first born child. She protests and a deal is struck with the funny little man - if she can guess his name, she will keep the child and the funny little man will never bother her again. After numerous guesses, all of which were incorrect, she managed to find out his name and upon her last chance to guess his name, she spoke it. Rumpelstiltskin was very annoyed at the correct guess and as promised, disappeared.
CLEAN
Some light occasional scratches or marks which do translate into occasional clicks or pops as the story is being told - nothing too dramatic but there none-the-less
BOOK:
The book has nice clean, colourful graphics with short sentences. Text print is quite large and easy to read.
NO personal writing on any page
NO damaged pages
NO missing pages!
NO "foxing" (Brown spots similar to mildew marks)
Barely any graphic discolouration at all - pretty impressive after more than 50 years!
Rear cover does have a small bottom edge tear or punch-like mark
This is a nice piece of audio & childs entertainment history from the Brothers Grimm and produced by the wonderful folk at Disney Productions.
I have placed the record within a new plastic inner sleeve to help protect it from paper dust and the whole book is now within a sealed clear plastic package.
