WEDGWOOD - Pin Dish
Blue Jasperware
Circa 1950's
White neoclassical relief decoration, central is the depiction of the Goddess Aurora, riding her chariot across a cloud (as all Goddess's do!), the chariot being pulled by two rearing horses. The large ring around her head is actually a half-moon diadem, which signifies sovereignty or authority and who could argue that? It's not every day you see a Goddess flying across the clouds!
Funny though, we have seen people describe this scene as "a lady" with horses - Geez! that's no lady but in fact a Goddess! To be more precise, she is the Goddess of dawn, waking early every day and she then rides across the sky bringing dawn each and every day ...thank you Aurora ...
