BACKGROUND:
Here is another special lead from my boxes of Broadcast Industry goodies - unfortunately I cannot recall which equipment this special cable was used with but perhaps someone will instantly recognise the connectors!
UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER - Interconnect Lead
Country of origin is unknown
Part # is unknown
So many things unknown! Why? Because the cable sheath is completely unmarked with any identification and both connectors also have no markings at all, not even any coding.
Eight active contacts plus an outer shield or ground path
The 'stand out' feature of this lead is the connectors, identical types at each end of the lead, and I will attempt to describe them now ...
Black plastic two part body which is not moulded to the cable but I cannot figure out how to access the inside of the plug.
Front of the plug is all metal, one piece not two halves such as with DIN connectors.
There are two small fingers on the side of the metal body, spring loaded and these look to be for locking the plug into a mating socket.
The interesting part is the contact configuration ... the body of the plug is circular but within this circle is a rectangular plastic 'box'. This box has two friction contacts in the centre and a further two sets of 3 contacts across the outside top and bottom of the box. This makes for 8 contacts in total PLUS the metal body is connected to the far end connector body, presumably this is a shield or ground point.
I have carefully DC tested those contacts and they are wired as 'straight thru' to the distant end connector, no cross-overs or other funnies.
From appearances it looks to me as though the contact surfaces are Silver plated.
PLUG DIMENSIONS:
Outside plastic body 16.25mm diameter
Front metal body 11mm
Length from front to cable exit point 37.5mm
The Black sheath multicore cable is 5.3mm diameter
The conductors must be of a reasonable cross-section as the cable is not extremely flexible such as with a Klotz but not rigid either.
5.5m lead length
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO cable damage i.e no kinks, cuts or any other damage.
NO connector damage at either end
