This knob is a "pull" from yet another amplifier in my audio equipment "maybe I will fix that one day" collection. I actually had a few of these V2's, some being used to service others and now I had just one left, destined to become an "organ donor"

Technics did build great front panels on their amplifiers, something that other manufacturers would have done well to take notice of ... the front panel is all 3.2mm thickness Aluminium and adorned with three different types of knobs, all metal, hybrid metal and nylon only. This knob is the hybrid type, meaning that the outer body of the knob is Aluminium (NOT painted on) and the inner section for the control shaft is nylon.

WARNING: This knob is not pristine! It is offered for a situation where "something is better than nothing" ... please read below for full details.

So easy to lose as they are just push on, pull off types.

You might be wondering "why did he turn his V2 amp into an organ donor?"

It's sad but after years of great service, the special original Technics ST8040 power blocks gave up the ghost (yes they were pushed HARD). You may see ST8040 blocks online, BEWARE! they are not as they seem - I have had nothing but trouble with blocks unless they are marked TECHNICS NEW CLASS A ST8040, also look for the batch code on the rear. Unfortunately these genuine ST8040's are hard to 'come by'. Added to that, there was also an intermittent issue with the preamp board slide switches so I decided that it was time to put the amp out for pasture and by extracting some useful components, giving "life" to another SU-V2 amp in need of tender loving care.

I am very big on sustainability, re-using or re-purposing equipment (no matter how old it is) because a LOT of EE (Embedded Energy) was used to create these items from our past and to throw something like this away, poison our landfill etc is just so irresponsible.

So I have tested and saved the known working and useful parts - here is one of those parts ...

TECHNICS Stereo Amplifier

Model: SU-V2 (Australian release)

20mm diameter round front panel knob

Function: BASS, TREBLE or BALANCE

Exactly as in the pictures and here is some more specific information (for those who may be considering using this knob on other equipment, Technics or otherwise)

KNOB INFORMATION:

Bass, Treble or Balance Control:

Hybrid REAL Aluminium outer body/skin (0.8mm thickness) and inside the hollow body has been inserted a nylon (not ordinary plastic) centre piece which contains the shaft socket (1/4" round shaft with a flat spot, often called a D knob)

Outer Aluminium skin has a satin finish

Fitting is simply push on and pull off

20mm height x 20mm diameter

Small, indented 3.6mm length pointer slot on the top

Behind this knob sits a fiberous dust protection strip or disc, these can be supplied but be aware that although there are three knobs in total, Technics used one dust protection strip for two of the knobs and just one knob has the standalone disc shape.

Weight: 10g

COSMETIC CONDITION:

CLEAN

THESE ARE NOT PRISTINE!

Noticeable 'top side' scratching can be seen on all of these knobs I have available.

While the body is not physically damaged and the sides are very nice, on the top there is some light scratching to the edge of the rim.

Take a close look at the photographs to see what I mean ... also note the photograph showing inside the metal body and the one knob (to the far left of the photograph) which seems to have a mishapen central shaft clamp.

Two knobs have nice secure, strong shaft clamps but one knob I am a bit suspect of ... the shape of the D doesn't look right and it appears someone has tried to glue it sometime in the past. It still "works" but for how long? A long term solution to this clamp issue is to remove the nylon insert (it is glued in, sometimes easy to remove and sometimes not!) and place another nylon insert inside the knob, if you happen to have one on hand.

NO user 'markings' of any kind

Satin finish is clean, evenly distributed and with no signs of "Aluminium rot" (corrosion) on all knobs available

The fibrous dust protection strip and disc that sits behind the knobs is clean (although a little discoloured) and not damaged.

Since removal from the panel, these knobs are now within a sealed clear plastic packet awaiting another amplifier to control.

USED Exactly as described
