HISTORY:
In a previous life I owned and operated an audio post production facility which dealt in restoration and archival of various media including magnetic tape.
When the facilities were closed down it was necessary to destroy some of the master tapes being held in our tape library as they contained copyright material. The tape was despooled and disposed of, leaving behind these empty reels.
All reels were previously SLH SONY product which have a large half label on each side, this has now been completely removed as has the library identification numbers - the reels are supplied CLEAN.
These reels are the solid side type, no spokes. The plastic is high strength and formulated to last - often these reels could be found on professional 1/4" machines in the studio, particularly where a 10.5" metal reel simply wouldn't physically fit or was an overkill with respect to tape length.

Central friction locking hub which CAN be separated (use GREAT CARE in doing this) or just add a drop of two of glue to have the two halves permanently together.
Why would you want them separated? It's like this ... if you can imagine using the reel as a takeup and you are offloading tape you no longer wish to keep - it is going to be destroyed (as in our case). You wind off all the tape onto one of these reels, once completed you then remove the reel from the tape machine table and carefully separate the two halves of the reel. You now have a nice tight, compact 'pancake' of tape which is easy to take off the reel and dispose of. Push the two halves back together again and the empty reel is ready to use once again.
