HISTORY:
My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.
I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.
While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.

COLOUR TEST FILM - Standard 8mm Film
Reel diameter: 5" (fully loaded)
NO SOUND
The content on this film was disappointing! In my world of audio technology, test tapes were used for tape machine alignment and servicing, I was looking forward to something along the same lines for use with Standard 8 projectors ... it was not to be
The film is full of what appear to be personal shots (not commercial product) onboard the old passenger ship, Australis (the name is clearly visible in a portion of the film). More specifically, when the vessel was sailing and berthed in Fiji with exciting scenes of the locals (including signs which clearly say Fiji) and film of the ocean!
Rather boring content but at least the colour is good ... no noticeable shifting to the Red end of the spectrum and that ocean does indeed look very Blue.
After watching this film, I have come to the conclusion that the labelling on the case actually means this was a test film from the camera being used ... not really for the purposes of testing the projector.
This is definitely early 1970's vintage, the S.S. Australis ceased operations in 1977 and was then retired at Timaru, NZ.
TESTING:
I have now setup the projector (BOLLERO P840T) and the screen, an old USA DA-LITE Flyer portable setup. Sound is built into the projector.
First thing I noticed ... no leader, so the film gets straight into it
NO sound at all, not surprising because there is no sound stripe
Colour rendition is actually very good, the Blues are Blue, the Reds are Red and the Greens are Green - nice. It was actually quite interesting looking at the scenes around Suva, Fiji - the hustle and bustle of Fiji back 50 years ago.
I only ran the film for the first 30 seconds or so to observe the colour and sound.
The film is in a plain square plastic flip case which is abundantly labelled as a TEST FILM, there is however no labelling on the reel itself.
Perhaps someone can make use of this film, either for historical reasons or just to check out a projector (must be Standard 8 capable, not Super 8) with a film that is not important, just in case the projector damages the "test film"
Anyway, I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed it back into the original plastic case AND sealed the film within clear plastic - waiting for a Standard 8 film buff to enjoy!
